The Foucault-Chomsky Debate

STREAMING VIDEO
1 Class Sessions

On October 22, 1971, at the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands, the French philosopher Michel Foucault and the American linguist Noam Chomsky debated the question, “is there such a thing as 'innate' human nature independent of our experiences and external influences?"

In this one-session course, we watch portions of the interchange between Foucault and Chomsky and examine what was the beginning of an enduring conflict between modernist and post-modernist thought.
